The clothing that people wear in the Dominican Republic is greatly influenced by the tropical weather there.
  • People in the Dominican Republic tend to wear summer clothes like t-shirts, shirts and blouses, skirts, sandals, and maybe a light jacket or a sweater.
Another factor in clothing there is the social setting, like in a church. Most Dominicans are Roman Catholic, so what they wear to church is especially important.
  • When women are going into church or another religious function, they normally wear long sleeves and veils.
  • Men don't wear hats when they enter the church.
The Spanish influence has also been apparent in the way the Dominicans dress.
  • Many people wear brightly colored dresses and Spanish-style accessories.

Aside from the typical clothing the Dominicans wear, there are plenty of fashion designers from there, and the Dominicans are proud of the way the fashion on their island has impacted the world.
  • Oscar de la Renta is a world-famous designer of Dominican-Republic origin. He first moved to Madrid to study painting, but then became interested in design. He then moved to Paris and finally New York. His style is reflected inn a lot of the floral patterns, color, and use of silk, satin, wool, and lace.
